Da diese detaillierte Modellierung äußerst rechenintensiv ist, entwickeln wir ebenso neue Methoden, damit wir diese Details in einer handhabbaren Weise erfassen und somit die bestmögliche politische Beratung für den Übergang zu einer nachhaltigen Energiezukunft bieten können. The core research focuses of the Department of Autonomous and Energy-Efficient Maritime Technologies include multiphase flows in a maritime context. A particular focus is placed on the phenomena of cavitation, ventilation, and sloshing. Methodologically, the department employs both numerical and experimental methods. The numerical methods include Navier-Stokes solvers (such as OpenFOAM) coupled with nonlinear equations of motion and solvers for structural dynamics. This spectrum is complemented by boundary element methods, molecular dynamics methods, and data-driven approaches. For experimental research, the department operates several testing facilities. These primarily include the K27 circulation and cavitation tank at the Severin site, the UT2 circulation tank on the Schleuseninsel (currently decommissioned), and the deep and shallow water towing tanks. To further expand research capacities, the procurement and operation of a sloshing facility and a laser laboratory are planned. In the ERC Consolidator Grant “FluCo” we concentrate on the analysis of fluctuations in the continuum and conservative stochastic partial differential equations. The research comprises several fields, including conservative SPDEs, singular SPDEs mathematics of machine learning interacting particle systems, nonequilibrium statistical mechanics stochastic fluid dynamics stochastic dynamics of (conservative) SPDEs. We aim to investigate questions of the well-posedness, regularity, qualitative behavior of solutions to SPDEs, (non-)equilibrium large deviations and their numerical simulation.
